Leaving Colorado for Florida, I was still traveling with my brother, sister-in-law, and their camper. We had to map a route missing the flooding that was going on all over the south. I wanted to visit Waco and see Magnolia Market Place, because I am a big fan of Fixer Upper and of Chip and Joanna Gaines,
Corsicana is a small town about an hour’s drive from Waco. Not a place I would give a second thought to visiting, however; because my brother wanted to miss high traffic areas, he called and made a reservation for us to park the camper at the American RV campsite.
The site was lovely and the people friendly. I did notice many campers that made their home there. There were also some tiny houses on the lots. You could tell the permanent residences as they had decks and yard art on their lots.
There were 2 bath houses with toilet and showers for those who did not shower in their own campers. I used the bath house because my brother and sister-in-law used their shower. All in all the camping experience there was very good.
Two Must See Places in Corsicana
We didn’t get to explore all of what the city had to offer because we only stayed 2 nights in Corsicana, and the only day we stayed was dedicated to Waco. We did, however, discover several things while there, a great Mexican restaurant, and a local Winery.
Fiesta Grill, located on N Commerce St in town, was recommended to us by the lady working at the check in desk at the American RV camp ground.
I loved the Mexican charm of the restaurant and the fact that it is family owned. I am not one for hot and spicy food, so I was happy they offered a non-spicy option.
The menu had a lot to choose from and I thought the pricing was very reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Corsicana and have a test for good Mexican food.
Angelita Vineyard & Winery
A short drive from where the campsite was located we found a gem, Angelita Vineyard & Winery. This winery was in the middle of nothing but fields.
The winery offered wine tasting, wine by the glass, and appetizer plates. My brother and sister-in-law went with a glass of wine, and I did the wine tasting and also ordered their Tomato Caprese appetizer plate. The wines were amazing, and I did purchase a bottle to go. I do believe you can order online.
This winery has won awards for its wines and labels. Another bonus they offered was live local music talent. We were surprised to find out about the live entertainment, and it just so happened that night, LondonLawhon, a contestant from American Idol, was performing.
We were able to meet and talk to London. She is very talented and actually was born in Corsicana; however, she does not live their now. London was visiting her Grandparents and stated every time she visits Corsicana, she will play at the winery. This is a free treat for those who live there and for those who visit the winery.
I highly recommend this Winery, and when I get back to Phoenix will be ordering from them as their wine is one I enjoy drinking.
I really enjoyed our stay in Corsicana and would recommend a stop if you’re traveling that way. It’s amazing what you can discover by missing the big cities and taking the route less traveled.
